Visual Acoustics – The Modernism Of Photographer Julius Shulman

Completing Battlestar Galactica over the weekend allowed my netflix queue to surface some documentaries that have been hanging around for awhile. Visual Acoustics – The Modernism Of Photographer Julius Shulman is one well worth watching.

The film reflects how Shulman’s images brought modern architecture to the American mainstream and played a major role in crafting the image of the Los Angeles and “Southern California lifestyle” to the rest of the world during the 50s and 60s. It also examines the relationship between Shulman’s images and the careers of influential 20th century architects, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra and John Lautner.
